The Throwing Athlete’s Warm-Up

A complete, coach-built warm-up to prepare a throwing arm the right way. Run it top to bottom, roughly 12–16 minutes before you throw. Warm up to throw — never throw to warm up.

The power is rotational: hips, mid-back, and lats drive the arm — not the arm alone.

Order matters

Raise → Mobilize → Activate → Integrate → Throw. Don’t skip ahead.

Decel = protection

Never skip the reverse-throw work. It trains the brakes that save arms.

Autoregulate

Scale volume to the day’s workload and how the arm feels.

The money exercise is the reverse throw (equal/opposite pull-backs) — it trains the back-of-shoulder brakes that protect the arm. The overhead reach wakes up the lats & obliques you rotate with.

No weighted-ball throwing here. It can add velocity but carries real elbow & shoulder injury risk — it belongs only with an individually screened athlete under supervision. Ask us first.

Now is the time for long held stretches — build flexibility here without stealing power the way they can before you throw.
